Celebrating National Make A Dog's Day With The Farmer's Dog

I always love the days I write about my two furry best friends, Melvin + Henry. They are my whole heart!!

And today we are thrilled to celebrate a very important special day….NATIONAL MAKE A DOG’S DAY. National Make A Dog’s Day today on October 22nd provides an opportunity to give all dogs the best day of their lives. The day not only encourages visits to shelters, but it is also a reminder to animal lovers everywhere to adopt instead of shop for a new furry best friend. Approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters in the United States annually, many being relinquished by their owners. Worse still, approximately 35% of the animals that enter shelters are euthanized. While numbers continue to decline, the need for adoption continues to be overwhelming. One sure way to make a dog’s day is giving them a new, loving home through adoption.

IF A DOG COULD TALK

Of course, adoption is just one way to make a dog’s day. If your favorite canine companion could talk, they might tell us going for an extra-long walk would make their day. When was the last time you visited the dog park? Of course, a new chew toy might top their list or a sock monkey if you are Henry. (that pup loves stuffed sock monkeys more than anything..LOL.) Sometimes, they just want to play. Another thing that tops the list of fur babies everywhere – good delicious nutritious real food!!! Can you imagine eating dry kibble everyday of your life? And eating dry kibble that you have no idea how it’s even made? Why would we feed our fur babies something we wouldn’t eat ourselves?

We shouldn’t be the only ones eating healthy! And kibble is extremely processed regardless of the ingredient claims (or pictures)..

I want to share my personal story with you. For those of you who follow mw you know Henry and Melvin are my absolute world. As a pet parent, I want the absolute best for my boys and diet is an important part of keeping them healthy and with me for as long as possible. (their lives are so short as it is) And even though Lin and I invested in really nice organic food for them…we knew it STILL could not be good because of the things they were still experiencing with their digestive system, their coat, weight, and so on. I started doing my research and was surprised to learn that even the amazing food we thought we were providing wasn’t so amazing. It was full of peas which is a just cheap filler. And too many peas are actually toxic for the pet causing respiratory issues. I tried to just make their food from scratch but that lasted about two weeks due to my busy schedule and lack of organization. So I still kept and researching and organically stumbled on a company named The Farmer’s Dog. They provide a service that delivers balanced, freshly made pet food with simple recipes, guided by science, and driven by love.

The Farmer’s Dog was a labor of love.

It all started with Jada, co-founder Brett Podolsky’s beloved dog.

“We got our start because she was sick for the first two years that I had her and I was willing to do anything to find a solution to her stomach problems.”

Once he said goodbye to commercial pet food and switched her to a fresh diet made with real food, her symptoms disappeared.  Soon after, he teamed up with his friend Jonathan Regev to create The Farmer’s Dog and feed pets everywhere the healthiest food.

I learned that The Farmer’s Dog is Real Food—Human-grade meat and veggies in simple recipes, made for dogs in USDA Kitchens! The food is made fresh and maintains whole food and nutritional integrity. It’s also Vet Approved containing nutrition that exceeds industry standards for dogs (AAFCO)!

I was impressed! I was also curious and wondering is this too good to be kind of thing?! I had Jenna who works for me 4 hours a week reach out to the company to work out a partnership so Melvin and Henry could try this food. Melvin is a very picky eater and I just never know with him. Henry however eats anything and everything. ( some things I will . not even mention…ewwww. )

So…Melvin and Henry have have finished two weeks of food from The Farmer’s Dog and we are here sharing our honest review!

Our Experience with The Farmer’s Dog

The ordering process was so quick and easy! It took less than 5 minutes but was very thorough. I loved how they asked for so much information about both Henry and Melvin. They wanted info on breed, weight, age, and activity level to make sure that their food was perfect for them. Melvin was excited from the moment he saw the big box that was delivered even jumping inside after it was empty. I loved the personalized READY-TO-SERVE pre-portioned packs.(just open and pour) It smells good too-like human food.
From the first week on The Farmer’s Dog I could tell a difference. Melvin’s normally dry sensitive coat was less itchy and was starting to shine. He has always liked meal time, but I’ve never seen him as excited to eat as he was with this! He also was less gassy. And has even lost two pounds! (he needs to lose about 8 more) With Henry, I noticed the most change with his digestive system. His normally disgusting runny bowel movements improved to what I would consider a more normal solid BM. In just two weeks I saw total transformations. Both dogs have boundless energy and always seems to be so happy, not only at mealtimes. The Farmer’s Dog food really makes a huge difference.

I received a week’s supply at one time. I kept out the first few days of meals in the fridge and put the rest in the freezer. As we approached the end of the first week, then I pulled out rest and put them in the fridge to defrost. Even if you forgot that part though-it’s no problem. Just pop a pouch of food in the sink in warm water and it will thaw in no time.

I was so impressed with the product even before we tried it, but it went beyond my expectations! Truly. We are huge fans of The Farmer’s Dog and cannot imagine our lives without it!
