Fire & Ice Facial Review and a Q & A With Jenna Case From Revolution Health Medical Spa
(see the frown line above and the fact that I rarely look straight on in my photos...yep, we are going to talk all about this)
Spas offer such a multitude of treatments nowadays – from mild experiences promoting relaxation to more intensive clinical procedures designed to counter the signs of aging – that it becomes difficult to pinpoint the really standout offerings; those ones that truly deliver the wow factor. And I must confess that I have not been spending much time on my skin in the spa. And as I get ready to approach my 38th birthday, I am definitely noticing changes in my skin. I am starting to worry about fighting those lovely fine lines and wrinkles we all love so much. And I am also not too happy with my larger pores and hyper pigmentation. From using a plethora of drugstore and department store brands to my "only organic and natural" phase I am feeling the need to start experimenting with some pharmaceutical-grade products and spend more time with an Esthetician.
So thanks to my pharma rep friend Eddie for introducing me to the lovely Jenna Case at Revolution Med Spa in Glenpool, Oklahoma. (Relax downtowners and midtowners--it's like a 15 minute drive)
So back to that wow factor. I have recently uncovered one such treatment at Revolution Med Spa. A new celebrity fave the Fire and Ice Facial is a 60 minute treatment that seeks to bridge the gap between a mild facial and an invasive peel and promises instantaneous and long-lasting results. Counting the likes of Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyonce among its fans, the facial is popular with the stars as it gives instant red carpet results without any post-treatment downtime. As the name suggests, Fire and Ice involves a sequence of two hot and cold masques, which feel tingly and slightly stinging upon application; the experience borders on the uncomfortable but as the old adage goes – no pain no gain and the gain here is certainly worth any pain. The ‘Fire’ masque uses sugar cane extract, retinol and niacin-amide to produce a mild peel effect and the ‘Ice’ masque harnesses the power of hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, green tea, grape seed and rosemary extract to sooth and hydrate the skin.
I love that results can be seen immediately.
Following the treatment I noticed a dramatic improvement in my complexion, with my skin boasting a radiance that wasn't there prior to my visit. My pores were tighter, the lines around my eyes appeared ironed out and my face had been visibly lifted. The treatment works by combining glycolic acid with retinol to actually resurface the skin, treating problem areas, reducing fine lines and encouraging cellular renewal. And I absolutely love that it requires zero downtime, so it's just the perfect treatment to refresh and renew the skin before weddings, parties and all of your events including your own Oscar Sunday!!
With so many events happening right now and the weather being so up and down, I figured it would be a great time to make sure your skin care routine and beauty knowledge is up to standards. SUPER excited to share this Q&A with Jenna Case. She touches all sorts of Oklahoma faces, and now she has touched my blog with her skincare advice… Thank you, Jenna!! Interview with Jenna
-Top Skin Care Tips?
I am very passionate about two things with skin care....wash your face two times a day with a gentle non-foaming cleanser and sunscreen. EVERYDAY! Whether you are off to the gym or to a red carpet event. The health of your skin will improve with just these two simple things.
-Common questions for first-timers?
What are the benefits of a facial? I hear that one a lot. Facials leave your skin looking soft, younger, and truly transformed. They help to clear clogger pores, quench parched skin, and exfoliate dead skin cells. The massage that is performed from a facial helps to reduce stress, aid in blood circulation, and lymphatic drainage. This can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness.
-How often should one have a facial?
A minimum of four times a year and as often as every four weeks. It takes the skin 4 weeks on average to complete the full cycle of cell growth and exfoliation. Therefore a facial every four weeks helps the skin through that process.
-What if anything will I notice after a facial?
If this is your first trip to the Esthetician, you could expect to have a variety of effects. If your skin is congested and your pores are full of debris the days following extractions and treatment could produce some breakouts. The skin starts to expel the debris. This will resolve shortly. It is important to stay diligent with your protocol to maintain the health of your skin. If your skin is dry, immediately after a facial, your skin will be hydrated and feel amazing. The effects of the boosted hydration should last 48 to 72 hours. Consistency is key to maintaining that healthy glow.
-What is the most common facial service that people come in for?
Most of my clients are busy professionals that do not have a lot of time. They want the best bang for their buck so to speak. They want their skin to be healthy and glowing and they want it now. I would say the most common facial is the Fire & Ice that you had. It's an intense resurfacing treatment and it instantly brightens and tightens the skin for that red carpet glow. The treatment is an hour long and it includes a gentle face massage to increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage.
-What is the best facial for rejuvenating aging dry skin?
Once again I would say the Fire & Ice for that immediate result. Once a client has started on a skincare journey with me I would recommend additional treatment to enhance collagen induction such as a Micro-Needling procedure.
-What do you like most about what you do Jenna?!
This is an easy one. I love to help people unlock the beauty they possess inside by giving them confidence to shine. My clients are all beautiful and sometimes their insecurities about their skin inhibit them to feel as confident as they should. Evaluating a clients skin and addressing concerns to develop a protocol is key. Once a client has been diligent in the work they can start to see the beauty that is them.
-What do you include in your own skincare regimen?
I would definitely have to go back to those key points of washing your face twice a day with a non-foaming cleanser and a sunscreen. I always use a Vitamin C serum. The serum will help to boost collagen production and is a powerful antioxidant to fight and neutralize free radicals.
-What is your event ready go-to?
Fire & Ice for sure!! I might also recommend the Illuminize Chemical Peel. This is a "non-peeling" peel that can be performed the night before an event. Both of these treatments give that red carpet look. Skin is polished and glowing.
-Top Skin Care trends for 2018?
I think in the past people have talked about exfoliating skin. That was the most common treatment that people would do either in the spa or at home to enhance the appearance of skin. Now that we know too much exfoliation can thin the skin and be counter productive to the look you are trying to achieve. So science is in!! In 2018, we are focusing on the science of skin! Genitically engineered products that enhance the skin to look and act younger! These active compounds effectively cause a change in your cells. In addition, bio identical growth factors are now available to encourage new collagen synthesis. Science is where it's at! We all want to be younger so let's get our skin on board!
-What 5 skin care products should every woman know?
We all have our favorites lines and products and I am totally in love with IS Clinical. I recommend everyone have a good cleanser to start the day and wrap up the night regime. Cleansing Complex is a wonderful cleanser as it's non foaming and works with all skin care types. Secondly I recommend a good eye treatment. I adore the Youth Eye Complex. This amazing magic in a bottle is full of powerful peptides, key-growth factors, and potent anti-oxidants. Youth Eye Complex can be used under the eyes and on the crow's feet as well. In addition, everyone needs to have Active Serum. This remarkable serum is the go-to for aging skin. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and diminishes the appearance of blemishes. It leaves the skin so soft and smooth. Now that we are talking serums, I would also not be complete without my Vitamin C. IS Clinical newest product GENEX is my all time favorite. The cutting edge ingredients in this product protect, revitalize, and enhance the foundation of healthy skin. Finally your skin is not safe without a good sunscreen. I recommend Extreme Protect SPF 30. I absolutely love this product and it isn the one thing that I would not go without in my travel bag. This product provides unprecedented multi-level broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It also reduces the appearance of sunburns and protects against environmental damage. It is smooth and creamy and I love it!!
-Why do you work in a clinical office vs spa?
I work in a clinical setting so that I can bring the newest technology and products to my clients with a medical doctor at the helm. Under a doctor's supervision there are products and services that I can offer that other's may not. I can provide medical-grade treatment and products to enhance the beauty of my clients. In addition, here at Revolution Health Medical Spa our physician can assist my treatment if we find that many of the underlying cause of your skin care problems root in your health. Then those things such an hormonal imbalance or overall gut health can be treated as well. We are the best of both worlds!!
-Words of Advice?!
Have a skin care professional help you to evaluate the concerns that you have so that you are on the right journey to healthy skin. Always wash your face and wear sunscreen, and no, your makeup with sunscreen will not do the job. Be consistent with your regimen. Finally love your skin at every stage and every age. We are beautiful!!
I had such a wonderful experience with Jenna, that I have recruited her to be my personal skin care provider. She is so professional and kind and know her stuff.
