Hellloooo Ladies! Happy 2019!!

I am so excited that my first post of the new year is one that is health related as I cannot think of a better time to start taking care of business and by business, I mean a healthy urinary tract! Sometimes life throws us curveballs which makes our bodies throw us curveballs and suddenly nothing is working right. I'm talking about getting a dreaded urinary tract infection, which is one of the most common bacterial infections. And for me, my very own stress levels trigger urinary tract infections. (Our bodies struggle to flush out UTI-causing bacteria more when we're stressed and our immune system is compromised than when we're feeling healthy.) It has been this way for years and years too. I admit it. I have suffered from chronic recurrent UTI’s my whole adult life. And my personal vow when suffering from a health discomfort is to always try and heal naturally first so today I am sharing some tips and tricks to reduce the re-occurrence of UTIs among sufferers. These tips will help you maintain good urinary tract health in the new year and beyond.

OMG! Cheers to that, right?!

So first things first:

CRANBERRY SUPPLEMENTS:

Anything cranberry is your friend! And daily cranberry is your best friend!

I recommend taking oral cranberry supplements and the Ocean Spray® CRANBERRY +health™ Soft Chews Based on 137mg cranberry polyphenols per serving, their advanced formula has over 50,000mg Fresh Cranberry Fruit Equivalent, which is more than one glass of Cranberry Juice Cocktail. I have been taking these for months now even traveling with them in Boston and Maine in November. The convenient, on-the-go packaging made it so easy for me as each chew is individually wrapped! I even keep a few in my car and in my gym bag so I can’t accidentally forget to take it every morning. And they actually taste really great like little cranberry gummy bears. ( I love that they are in a soft chew form because it is so hard for me to swallow pills.) Ocean Spray® CRANBERRY +health™ Soft Chews are made with REAL fruit with no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives and that is something I really appreciate. They do not believe in genetically engineered ingredients! Each chew is only 6 grams of sugar too and only 25 calories. I have tried so many products out there and am truly impressed with these. I have not had had a UTI since taking these even with my crazy stressful travel schedule and the holiday hustle and bustle. (Sharing a promo code with you so you can try them at the end of this post)

You should also know that Ocean Spray is the original farm-to-family company, proudly owned by more than 700 farmer families. As the cranberry expert, they want to bring the health benefits of this amazing fruit to their consumers in as many ways as possible and I am so grateful.

Stay Hydrated:

Next tip is H20. You will want to stay super hydrated to help with UTI prevention. Drinking adequate amounts of water will flush bad bacteria out of the urinary tract and by doing this, you prevent the bacteria from multiplying and making it’s way into the bladder. You will want to cut way back from the caffeine and any sugary drinks too. I have had to limit my coffee intake to only one small cup in the morning and have noticed significant results.

Change up the Undergarments:

Ditch the lace for cotton ladies, especially when hitting the gym. When we exercise, moisture builds up and this moisture makes it easier for bacteria to grow. Cotton underwear doesn't suffocate you. Change out of tight-fitting damp workout clothes immediately after a sweat session too.

Take a Probiotic:

Probiotics are beneficial micro organisms that are consumed through food or supplements. They can promote a healthy balance of bacteria in your gut. Probiotics are available in supplement form or can be found in fermented foods, such as kefir, kimchi, Kombucha and probiotic yogurt. The use of probiotics has been linked to everything from improved digestive health to enhanced immune function. Some studies also show that certain strains of probiotics may decrease the risk of UTIs.

Vitamin C:

Vitamin C can help make the urine more acidic, which may prevent bacteria from growing. You can get loads of vitamin C from foods, such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, strawberries, blueberries, green leafy vegetables, and green peppers. So next time you are the market, stock up on those.

REST

Above all rest! And take care of yourself. Learn to embrace self care practices, do yoga, meditate, and just try to live a stress free life to avoid UTI’s all together.

I really hope these tips and trick help you stay a step ahead of urinary tract infections because they have really helped me tremendously! And it’s been so easy incorporating them into my daily routine!
