Helping My Pups Adopt A Healthy Lifestyle Featuring Pet Plate
So much thanks to Pet Plate for sponsoring this post! Thank you for supporting the brands that keep GFY creating!
Our sweet boys have been living a life of leisure and gluttony this year, just as I think we all have in all fairness to them!!! After a vet appointment, we knew it was time to make a few lifestyle changes for Melvin & Henry. We have had experience with fresh pet food previously but then got lazy and switched back to kibble! HUGE mistake. Our poor dog Henry has the worst digestive issues and can no longer even stomach kibble. Go French Yourself is committed to highlighting and working with more Black-Owned brands this year and indefinitely so after doing some research I was thrilled to learn about Pet Plate! They are black-owned and this was something that was and is VERY important to me. The owner-Renaldo Webb was a consultant in the pet food space and saw the inferior ingredients and substandard processes used to make mass-market pet food. He went to work to find a healthy solution for his adorable pooch Winston and Pet Plate, a fresh dog food delivery service was born! I also saw that their meals are formulated by a vet- Dr. Renee Streeter, DVM, DACVN, Veterinary Nutritionist! This was also a huge plus for me. Pet Plate delivers ready to eat, freshly cooked food that is pre-portioned for your pet. The meals are made with human-grade ingredients in a USDA kitchen. Also super important to me! And another super cool thing you need to know is Pet Plate has resealable containers and most of their shipping materials are recyclable, including the packaging liner, which also features a compostable interior. The only packaging that isn't recyclable is the plastic bags that contain the dry ice.
So excited to share everything we have experienced with Pet Plate thus far as we almost are at that full 30 day mark with it!
I first became interested in looking into fresh dog food when I learned about some dry dog foods being linked to all kinds of issues like canine heart problems and weight gain as well as lots of other digestive issues. That part wasn’t particularly surprising to me, because I could see the weight gain that both my boys had been dealing with. (This also affects their activity levels and really affects their overall health in a negative way) The thing that was really shocking is that the brands of dry dog food being listed as potentially dangerous were the ones that are often marketed as the “premium” dog foods. You know the ones that I’m talking about. The fancy ones you get when you really care about your dog’s health. The ones I have paid so much money for!
HOW PET PLATE WORKS
First of all, you’ll create a profile on Pet Plate’s website letting them know basic info like your dog’s gender, breed and weight! For mix breeds, add the secondary breed option. If you are unsure of the mix breed select “Unknown Mixed Breed”, there are plenty other details that will help Pet Plate to find the best-personalized food. You will also mention whether your pooch is spayed or neutered or not (unspayed/unneutered dogs need more calories)! You will also select the activity level of your pup and answer a question about his/her waistline! I just love this attention to detail in really understanding as much information as they can about my sweet boys!
Then you’ll choose which recipes you’d like to receive. Here are the options: Chompin’ Chicken, Barkin’ Beef, Tail Waggin’ Turkey, Lip Lickin’ Lamb (you can select multiple ones as well).
Are the names not the cutest?!?
Then you will enter the email address which you want to register with Pet Plate! And select Full Meal Plan or Topper Plan depending upon your requirements. I recommend you to go for the full meal plan if you wish to feed Pet Plate as 100% of your pup’s diet. However, if you are on a budget or if you wish to try the meals, then select the Topper Plan.
Enter shipping information and finish the payment to complete the order! That’s it!
OUR EXPERIENCE WITH MELVIN AND HENRY AND PET PLATE
Because Pet Plate is made with human grade ingredients, I feel like it pretty much goes without saying that Mel and Hen absolutely love it. What dog doesn’t love human food? The difference here is that this human food is actually good for him, unlike those pizza crusts they manage to snag under the table.
HENRY LOVES THE CHOMPIN’ CHICKEN!
The vet-approved Chompin’ Chicken recipe is made with real chicken and perfect for dogs with sensitive tummies and bulging waistlines.
Ingredients that I can pronounce!!!!
Ground chicken, sweet potatoes, chicken liver, broccoli, butternut squash, apples, natural flavor, safflower oil, dicalcium phosphate, salmon oil, calcium carbonate, salt, potassium chloride, parsley, vitamins and minerals (taurine, vitamin E, zinc oxide, ferrous fumarate, copper gluconate, sodium selenite, manganese gluconate, potassium iodide, vitamin D3)
MELVIN LOVES THE BARKIN’ BEEF!
The vet-approved Barkin’ Beef recipe is made with real beef and is a familiar staple that’ll please even the hungriest (and pickiest) of the litter.
Check out these ingredients!
Ground beef, sweet potatoes, potatoes, beef liver, carrots, apples, green peas, pumpkin, dicalcium phosphate, natural flavor, safflower oil, salmon oil, calcium carbonate, salt, vitamins and minerals (taurine, vitamin E, ferrous fumarate, zinc oxide, manganese gluconate, thiamine mononitrate, magnesium oxide, potassium iodide, sodium selenite, vitamin D3)
The food is packed in quality containers too that are also reusable. The food is also already pre portioned so that you can directly serve them without worrying about the amount of food to be fed. These containers are so great for traveling too! ( wonderful for picnics) We recently had to board our boys too as I had a work trip and these were so great to leave with their doggy camp! They loved the ease of Pet Plate!
Pet Plate is fresh food and so it should be frozen or refrigerated when stored. It arrives frozen but needs to be defrosted. It should be kept in the fridge and used within 5 days once defrosted. However, if not defrosted, you can keep it in the freezer for up to 12 months! After just a few days of feeding the boys Pet Plate I really started to notice a difference in their manner. Melvin had more energy overall, and both Henry and Melvin finished every meal in record time! I am also noticing shinier coats that shed less, cleaner teeth and fresher breath, and smaller stools that are solid and not runny! (TMI but I know my dog owners out there can appreciate this)
Melvin has lost 2 pounds too and Henry lost half a pound!!! I am so happy! I just want to ensure that they have a longer, healthier life and I am so happy to feed them Pet Plate.
Melvin and Henry cannot get enough of the ORGANIC CHICKEN APPLE SAUSAGE BITES from Pet Plate! They are high in protein and made with only the finest human-grade ingredients. They are soft to chew and doggos love them! It’s the perfect healthy treat as part of a complete & balanced diet.
