Homemade Blueberry Bagel Bites Recipe

Bagels are one of our favorite indulgences. I feel like in life you are either a bagel person or a doughnut person and I am hands down a bagel girl! Give me a bagel over a doughnut any day! Truth me told I don’t even really like doughnuts.

I have always wanted to learn how to make bagels at home so the other day I finally gave it a try. And boy…it truly is intimidating! Notice in my title how it says bagel bites?! LOL. The flavor was there, however all but one fell apart in the boiling process and there was not a lot of rise.

Again..the flavor was incredible and the Lin loved them being “bagel bites” ! So I am going to share the recipe I used but in the comments, can you give me some tips and tricks?! I have since ordered some bagel molds and I cannot wait to get them!!

Ingredients

  • 1 pack yeast

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 ¼ cup warm water

  • 3 ½ cups all purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup flour (for dusting blueberries)

  • 1 ½ tsp salt

  • 1 cup blueberries

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix 1 ¼ cup warm water and 2 tbsp sugar.

  2. Pour in 1 pack of yeast and allow to rest for 5 minutes and it gets foamy.

  3. In a bowl, mix 3 ½ cups all purpose flour and 1 ½ tsp salt.

  4. Make a well in the center and pour the water and yeast mixture.

  5. Mix well.

  6. In a small dish, coat 1 cup blueberries with ¼ cup flour.

  7. Fold the blueberries into the bagel dough.

  8. Knead, by hand or with a mixer, for about 10 minutes.

  9. Cover and let rise about 1 - 1 ½ hours or until it has doubled in size.

  10. Divide the dough into 8 balls.

  11. Using your thumb, make a hole in the center.

  12. Set on a baking sheet and let rise for 30 minutes.

  13. While the bagels are rising, in a stock pot, boil water.

  14. After their last rise, put the bagel in the boiling water. Flip after 1 minute and allow to boil on the other side for 1 minute. (For extra chewy bagels, allow 2 minutes per side.)

  15. Put back on a baking sheet. Bake at 425 for 20 minutes.

Again..would love some tips and tricks in the comments! Or just some moral support. LOL! I will keep trying because I just cannot stand to be defeated in the kitchen!
