If You Must Wear A Face Mask (YOU MUST), Let It Be Good-Looking!

The more we learn about COVID-19, the more it becomes clear that asymptomatic transmission—that is, the spread of the virus by those who are not presenting symptoms—is a BFD. On Friday, the CDC updated its recommendations to urge all Americans, whether we feel sick or not, to wear cloth masks if we must go out in public, like to the grocery store or pharmacy.

N95 masks must be reserved for healthcare workers on the front-lines, and paper masks are also scary and should be thrown away after every use. Purchasing a reusable fabric mask is a win-win for the environment and for the three businesses I have gotten my masks (or fabric) from!

I want to first say that my intention in this post is heartfelt and I am trying to be a helpful source of information. I am not trying to make light of a horrible situation because from a public-health perspective, it doesn’t matter what your face mask looks like, where you purchased it, or how you made it—wearing a functional mask is all that matters right now! But for my post today I am focusing on the fact that masks have inevitably become a form of aesthetic self-expression and have inevitably become the “must-have” accessory for spring 2020.

Self expression has always been a huge part of my life. I take lots of pride in my personal style and for me, I really wanted a variety of masks to enhance my OOTD’s. Of course, we are barely going out even having groceries delivered but we do go out every single day- multiple times of the day to walk our dogs. We live in a condo building and it’s mandatory that a face covering must be worn at all times in our common areas… (mail room, laundry room, etc)

Here are the three companies I am sharing today for you to shop from!

KES-

Kes is a gorgeous brand out of New York that effortlessly dresses the modern woman—from day to night, beyond trends, seasons and her ever-changing moods! They focus on sustainability and offer an organically dyed program as part of their collection. The slip dresses are so beautiful and I love their modern silk pullovers! In a response to the severity of the global crisis, KES is working on initiatives to contribute to the aid of this pandemic so they have created sustainable, washable protective face masks which have the potential to prevent the entry of airborne particles.

As an initiative to help the crisis, for every face mask purchased, KES will donate one face mask to a healthcare professional.

By providing supplies, they aim to offer the health care forces with the sufficient protection gear they need to fight the fast-spreading virus.

I have the KES Sustainable Washable Face Mask in Dusk Berry (but they come in so many pretty colors and a few prints too) in a 100% Silk Charmeuse. It has adjustable drawstrings to tie it and features interior pocket for filter inserts. The silk is such a soft breathable fabric that does not make me feel hot and suffocated! You can wash their masks in warm water and they will include a nice little flier with your order with a great guide on how to wear it and wash it!

Ashley Rowe-

This stunning brand is out of Marfa, Texas which will always hold a soft spot in my heart being from West Texas! Ashley Rowe’s color-centered capsule explores the power of monochromatic expression in clothing and the environment. Embodying the psychic vibrations of colors, each piece is a subdued statement of minimalism and liberated expression. Rather than marking the change of seasons with new pieces, Ashley Rowe celebrates each chapter with a vibrant color swap that takes over the brand, store-front, Ashley Rowe’s (the person) hair, and philosophy. Inspired by Ashley Rowe’s mother, who planned her life around one color at a time, pieces are a celebration of temporal hues.  Expect a full immersion into the electrifying feeling of being orange or bathe in the calming properties of blue, showcased in a limited-edition 6-piece capsule.

They have also created some lovely masks out of their signature fabrics that I just adore.

The WASHABLE + REUSABLE DENIM FACE MASKs feature Cotton straps! no elastic is used making it more comfortable.

Serged all the way around, super durable, and washable!

Owl & Drum-

Local to my hometown and founded by a dear friend….Owl & Drum is Tulsa's "one-stop shop" for modern fabrics, quilting and sewing supplies, sewing classes and unique gifts! There are so many beautiful fabrics to chose from that suit your individual style. Purchase the fabric on-line from Owl & Drum and sew a mask yourself or have your favorite “sewist” to make you a mask!

I chose a beautiful Chartreuse fabric for a mask for Jenna. It reminded me of her instantly and will just pop with a lot of the stuff she wears. It screams spring and happiness too! I also picked this stunning Sunkissed Pink by Lemonni fabric for a mask for my daughter in Michigan. It has a real artsy feel to it and I know Zoë will really love it!

And then of course for me Bianca helped me find the perfect print !

Lin even got one with a nice “manly” print and his mask is reversible!! So they have fabrics for everyone.
