Olive Oil That Is Beautiful Inside And Out: Brightland Along With A Vanilla Ice Cream with Lucid Olive Oil and Sea Salt Recipe

When my husband and I started to get into cooking, we expected to improve our well being and boost our confidence in the kitchen. Instead, we got a little nauseous. After eliminating likely culprits like cheese and bread, we discovered - much to our surprise - that the cause was actually our olive oil. A bit of research uncovered that the olive oil Americans consume is not what we think it is. And no one was talking about it. So I decided to start the conversation.

Like most born entrepreneurs, Aishwarya Lyer doesn’t follow a prescribed path. Raised in an immigrant household, she was taught a strong and focused work ethic from an early age. But that didn’t stop her from exploring: Iyer started her career in L’Oreal’s luxury products division at Lancôme, which sparked her interest in memorable luxury brands. Afterward, she spent nearly a decade in communications and advisory roles at start-ups and tech companies including ff Venture Capital, SecondMarket and Whisper. That’s when she first put her entrepreneurial spirit to work: In 2016, she co-founded Ellephant Partners, a strategic communications firm specializing in venture-backed technology companies.

The following year, the innovator found herself driven again to start her own venture: Inspired by her lush California surroundings and intel on the sub-par and corrupt state of American olive oil, she went on a mission to bring new energy and change to the industry, founding Brightland—a line of premium, custom-blended extra virgin olive oil “that is nourishing for the body, heart and soul.”

Brightland was born out of a desire for better, more honest food production - and a deep belief in the land and what it provides. My ancestors were salt farmers in South India; the land provided for them, and in turn they provided salt for people in the South. It’s a beautiful cycle when left untouched.

I purchased the olive oil for Lin as a Christmas present and we are never looking back. Once you experience this olive oil, you just will not be happy with anything else! With Brightland, you know exactly what you’re getting too - authentic olive oil that’s never rotten, overprocessed, or fraudulent. With absolutely no fillers or artificial preservatives. They hand-source their olives from a single-estate California farm, then craft them into custom-blended oils. Their sole ingredient comes from trees that live on for thousands of years; so you can rest assured that what you’re putting into your body is straight from the earth. It’s grounded. It’s good for you. It’s never seen a lab.

Knowing everything that goes into your food allows you to thoroughly enjoy it, and share it with family and friends with more pleasure!

I believe in the California sun & soil, and the beautiful olives they yield. It’s my wish that our olive oils provide abundant nourishment to you and the people you love for many breakfasts, lunches and dinners to come.

Brightland Magnets. A pair of cheerful magnets to brighten your fridge. Use them to hold your favorite recipe, a Polaroid of a loved one, an old concert stub, and other mementos that make you smile.

I have been having the best time using Lucid!!! LUCID is a 100% Lemon Olive Oil! It is lovingly blended with lemon and hand-picked heirloom Frantoio olives and harvested early by a master miller onsite in a certified organic mill.

Tasting Notes: citrus, zesty, luminous, smooth.

 THE SPECIAL LABEL:

LUCID's label was crafted in collaboration with Amsterdam-based artist B.D. Graft. Known for his series “Add Yellow," Graft worked closely with Brightland to create an eye-catching label that expresses their shared vision for Brightland's first artist label bottle.

A collage of red, navy, lavender and bold brush strokes with oil pastels and acrylic are punctuated by a single lemon, a nod to Graft’s series that addresses artistic ownership with his addition of yellow to renowned pieces. LUCID’s color palette compliments the label design of Brightland’s classic ALIVE and AWAKE blends, revealing similar inspiration from Matisse’s cutouts.

LUCID comes in a 375 ML/12.7 fl oz glass bottle that has been UV-powder coated to protect the lemon olive oil from damaging light.

Brightland suggests using this on scones, pancakes, pound cake, roasted potatoes, muffins, pasta, greens, salad and in cocktails. So I had some fun and used it on ice cream and thought I would share that recipe with you today too!

Yes, people are always surprised to hear that I love my vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. And then when I insist they try it – I get great pleasure in knowing that I’ve convinced them that it is, indeed, a winning combination. The grassiness and fruitiness of extra virgin olive oil and the delicate brininess of the sea salt flakes brings out the flavor of the vanilla and adds a wonderful, rich subtleness to the ice cream. Now with Lucid though I get this amazing citrus flavor profile! It’s simply divine and if you haven’t tried it . . . well, give it a try and let me know what you think!
