Spring French Playlist/ Françoise Hardy

I am so excited to have found a record shop that actually stocks French albums!!!!! Be sure to check out Tunnel Records + Beach Goods in the Outer Sunset area of San Francisco. This Françoise Hardy album is just too good to not share with you so I threw it up on Spotify.

From the very beginning of her career, Hardy exuded an indefinable otherness, which set her apart from her contemporaries, singers like Johnny Hallyday and France Gall, whose manufactured sound defined the yé-yé style that characterised French pop in the early 1960s. Her songs, however jaunty they sounded, often evinced a kind of dreamy sadness – “I walk down the streets, my soul in sorrow” runs a line in her debut hit single, Tous les garçons et les filles.
