The Classic Leather Tote Featuring Blackburn Goods

There's quite the buzz over here at GFY HQ it's all because of a certain new bag: The Classic Leather Tote From Oklahoma owned Blackburn Goods. The Classic Leather Tote is the companion of the capsule wardrobe. Elegant and ready for anything, it’s size and design make it an irreplaceable. The dimensions are accommodate a large binder and wide enough to stand on its own. The Classic Tote is the perfect addition to a wardrobe. I love the classic design and modern details; a bag that is refined and polished but also feels very lived in and knows how to have some fun.

Loved receiving so many great inquiries in our DM’s when we introduced you to this bag in this very romantic reel inspired by Love Letters. And we are so excited for you to get to know more a bit more about the brand and the creator behind it-Emily Blackburn, in this Q + A feature!

We have a true passion for leather.

Seventeen years ago I began tinkering with leather and the alchemy of design. As a self taught artist it was sculpture that captured my attention and that interest blossomed with the discovery leather and it’s versatility. My passion turned into an opportunity to bring people better leather goods than the market had to offer. Top grain leather, beautiful and thoughtfully sourced hardware and durable design separate Blackburn Goods goods from others. My hope is that you find a bit of yourself here and take it on your next adventure.

As you can see the gorgeous cognac color looks different in various degrees of light and I really love that about it! I cannot wait to see her changing beauty as she ages too!

Emily’s bags are true pieces of art. She creates pieces of value that will become your most favorite travel companions greeting all of your lovely possessions with open arms. Her pieces are highly practical yet head-turning. Inspired by simplicity and a deep sense of clean form: these bags will last a lifetime. Investing in heirloom quality items can be completely addictive. It makes the throw-away items we’re surrounded by pale in comparison. I proudly stare in awe at this American-Made Heirloom as it sits on the table as I sip my coffee and indulge in my pastries. I am so ready for this pandemic to be over too because I am ready to take my tote out and about to let her be admired by the world. I just know people will stop me on the concourse, at the coffee shop, everywhere I go really! In a sea of cookie cutter bags your Blackburn Goods leather bag will scream originality, old-soulishness and American craftsmanship. Isn’t that so much more special?!

I have my eye on the Debruyn Backpack next! This particular bag was designed for her friend TJ. He wanted something rustic and refined to match his elevated outdoor style so they took inspiration from the classic messenger bag, it’s rugged and storied design past and paired it with a modern backpack silhouette. The straps and buckles on the front flap invoke a western explorer feeling but the decided lack of tooling and structured design bring the aesthetic gently back to a modern side of style. GASP! Just look for yourself!

I also cannot get over The Bourdain Leather Duffle Bag which reminds to tell you that Blackburn Goods offers a custom design service to those looking to add an heirloom piece to their wardrobe. Emily really loves the challenging and exciting work!

So now I know you are eager to hear from Emily herself so here is our Q + A.

INTERVIEW WITH EMILY

-When and why did you create Blackburn Goods?!

I created Blackburn Good because I wanted to create high quality leather goods that would last for decades. While I've been working with leather since I was fifteen Blackburn Goods was officially established in 2012.

-What was your design process like?

My design process begins with the goal of organization or daily life in a convenience and beautiful way. I reference runway collections from New york fashion week, Women's wear daily, and the Pantone color of the year to create a color palette that is fresh and cohesive.

-What surprised you most about launching a business? And did you have any expectations?

The most surprising thing about owning a business is while it can be challenging to balance the many rolls of business it is incredibly rewarding too. There is a joy that comes when a customer loves Blackburn Goods because she's found a brand that represents her style or when a client sees for the first time the bag he's been dreaming of come to life in and now rests in his hands. Blackburn Goods is about beautiful style and an organized life.

-What sets Blackburn Goods apart from other brands?

When I began working with leather I learned that a product labeled "genuine leather" had very little to do with actual leather was like calling bologna filet mignon. They may be related but they are not the same thing. We are committed to taking care of details, using the highest quality materials and techniques to create our line. Our short cut is the right way the first time.

-What are my two favorite bags?

That is such a difficult question! Each one is perfect in it's own way. For everyday wear I'd say the Emma and the Chloe wallet are my favorites for the compact size, sporty look and ability to hold nearly everything!

My favorite bag to make is the Bourdain Duffle Bag. The complexity of the bag is fascinating and it's such a reward to craft.

-What are my goals for the brand moving forward?

I'd like to see us continue to grow our brand throughout the United States and North America. It's very important to me that we are American Made and that will be at the forefront of our decisions.

-What do you love to do when you're not working?

Cooking and baking. I'm a huge fan of the Great British Baking Show!

-What is one thing most people don't know about me?

I love power tools! And just tools in general. I have my own tool box and power drill.

-What is one thing I'm looking forward to this year personally + professionally?

Personally and professionally I'm excited to get back to work and to see more of my family. Last year was such a challenge for all of us, I think it made us count our blessings. The ability to work and see my loved ones, now more than ever, is what I'm thankful for.

Thanks so much Emily!
