It’s no secret that everyone wants to dress like a French girl - at least to try it out. Now, there is something of a misconception that you have to be French to really nail the look. But nothing could be further from the truth! Just look at model Alexa Chung. She embodies perhaps the epitome of French-girl style, but was born and raised in the UK. Some people also assume the best place to wear your sleek and sophisticated French-girl clothing is in Paris. While the City of Lights is certainly one of the fashion capitals of the world though, and the most logical place to flaunt French-inspired style, there are plenty of places around the world where your chic sense of style will work beautifully for you.
Here are four stylish cities where you can flaunt your French-girl style.
In the market for a gorgeous reusable net bag that you will just cherish for years and years to come?!
I was!
Insert the beautiful Net Bag from Mia Mélange in royal blue. Mia Mélange bags are made from 100% cotton rope which they carefully sew together in a coiling technique. The cotton is grown locally in South Africa by farmers who are members of the Better Cotton Initiate (BCI). I love this net bag because it’s very durable and expands as more goods are placed in the bag. It’s strong enough to support my books too! And a change of shoes as the weather is changing, I prefer to walk downtown and have a nice pair of heels with me to slip into for dinner!

I swear my sophisticated aesthetic was influenced by my former life in France. And because of that, I’ve been a Francophile my entire life. Just like that Hemingway quote predicts—the City of Light stays with you. It really does.
I am so incredibly happy and lucky to be spending an extended period of time in France this winter for my 40th birthday. Of course Rodge would want me celebrating such an epic birthday indulging in escargot aux fruits rouges et fromage blanc at Du Pain et des Idées after strolling around Musée Bourdelle for hours with my 60’s French pop records in tow that I purchased that morning from La Violetera. Gah-this is what I see in my head!

Oui, yes this is me. Bonjour.
"Paris is always a good idea," Audrey Hepburn once said, and I'm sure any Francophile would agree. When they're not cafe hopping in the City of Lights or playing pétanque in Provence, any lover of France can still enjoy the je ne sais quoi of the country no matter where they are in the universe. Read MoreI wanted to make 2019 the year where I focus on trying new things. And the one question I get a lot having a blog called Go French Yourself is if I speak French. So I am thrilled to inform you that I have started French lessons and am committed to learning how to speak this beautiful language. I love the language and am always having a total love affair with France and am obsessed with the je ne sais quoi of the French woman.
And me being such a Francophile-it’s just time to fully embrace it. I am only three lessons in but have been doing a lot of home study and I have been watching french films like crazy as well as listening to French music. Today, I even writing out post it notes with French words and placing them all over the house. I will be taking you on my delightful journey through my experiences of learning French at the age of almost 39. I will be sharing my joys and frustrations with learning a new language, and delving into the nuances of French. So far..there have been a lot of frustrations as I am having a tough time with the phonetics, especially since I somewhat know Spanish and cannot seem to shake my “okie-tex-mex” accent which is so not sexy. LOL! Anyhow, it’s not as easy as it may appear.
Read MoreThere is something about Parisian women and their lifestyle that seems to just work. Would you agree? Maybe it’s because croissants and pastries are eaten with abandon; or perhaps it’s the laissez-faire way of life. Whatever the reason, the French tend to look chic and sophisticated every single minute, no matter what. When it comes to fragrance and French women, there’s no such thing as having a wardrobe. They pick their signature scent, and that’s it – no matter the time of day, the season, or even the occasion. And this is where Bastide comes into the story. I will tell you all about them here in a bit. I promise. I mean they inspired this whole post after-all.
