French Wines Delivered To Your Door-The SomMailier Experience

Disclaimer: I was provided free product in exchange for a review. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Do you love wine like me? Do you get annoyed gazing at walls of wine in the store trying to decide what to try? Or are you still being safe and staying pretty quarantined?! Or perhaps you just really love French wine and can never find anything good in your local wine store?! I would answer OUI OUI to all three of these personally.

Fret no more over any of this because somMailier is here for us!

How it works.

THEY DISCOVER

Their family and wine experts in France delve into hundreds of handcrafted wines to truly discover the best and most reflective wines of their particular region. somMailier is the only wine club in the US 100% dedicated to French wines (and not just Bordeaux wines but wines from every wine producing region in France including the Rhone Valley, The Loire Valley, Alsace, Provence, Languedoc Roussillon, etc.).

YOU CHOOSE

You decide whether you want to receive 3 or 6 bottles every shipment (or for a certain number of shipments if for a gift….) So love the idea of a monthly wine club as a gift. It’s something many people may not do for themselves, but would thoroughly enjoy!

You then select what type of wines you’d like to receive (reds, whites or a mix). It’s that simple.

C’EST LA VIE

(3 bottles per shipment)
$99.00 per quarterly shipment

RENDEZ-VOUS

(6 bottles per shipment)
$192.00 per quarterly shipment

They SHIP

Every 3 months, your package will be shipped directly to your door (or to your gift recipient’s door) and will include information about each wine and its winemaker. With somMailier, you or your friends get the full tasting experience!

After I placed my order, it only took a few days to ship which was great!! I was actually really surprised how quickly I received my wines.

The wine and food pairings were so incredibly helpful to me! I am still learning about all of this so I just love that this is offered. They also share the tasting notes in those exclusive in-depth descriptions and that was another favorite feature of mine. I love the stories about the vineyard, the winemaker as well as the different grape varieties used. I geek out to that kind of stuff!! Don’t you?

I thought the wines they selected for me were spot on based on what I usually drink. My favorite is red wine, especially this time of year and they picked 3 wonderful wines for me. They were elegant, with complexity and with layered flavor intensity.

The three wines I tried

Château de Portets Grand Vin 2015 Graves Red-

Tasting Notes: Nose of blackcurrant and sweet chocolate. Strong and fruity body, balanced by freshness and silky tannin.

Blend: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot.

Hold Time: Now or up to 10 years

Pair With:

This full-flavored wine is excellent with red meat, game, duck or lamb: try the mythical 7-hour roast leg of lamb with luscious potatoes. This wine will even stand spicy or very tasty dishes. Bordeaux wines traditionally accompany the local porcini mushrooms, so a mushroom omelet or quiche is a good choice. For a simpler and quicker meal, try an assortment of cheeses and charcuteries, or a good old cheeseburger.

Côtes du Roussillon – La Soulane red 2017-

Tasting Notes: Black cherry, spices and a whiff of thyme. Ample taste of red fruit with soft tannins and spicy finish

Blend: 50% Grenache/50% Syrah

Hold Time: now or up to 5 years

Pair With: Duck Breast, lamb shoulder. Grilled vegetables, pork ribs, beef casserole with anchovies or olives.

Burgundy – Cote Chalonnaise Annie Derain red 2017-

Tasting Notes: Aromas of Rose, black cherry, berry, plum and currant. Fresh flavor, low tannins.

Blend: 100% Pinot Noir

Hold Time: Now or up to 10 years

Pair With: poultry dishes (duck), cheese such as Taleggio or Gruyere

For a wine club to be successful in my mind, it has to do three things.

  1. Offer me value above and beyond I could get on my own through regular retail channels.

  2. Pleasantly surprise me with thoughtfully-selected choices.

  3. Educate and take me further down my own wine journey.

somMailier indeed is winning the wine club!!!
