The Best GPS Dog Tracker To Keep Your Pup Safe And Active In 2020
I've been interested in getting GPS collars for Melvin + Henry for quite some time now. Yes, they are almost always leashed, but I still worry about what would happen if boys somehow got away from me while we were walking. They both have a bit of Houdini tendencies! While hugely improved after the extensive training they had in Colorado…they still do not have a reliable recall. And of course with me being overly anxious about them I often think about every horrible scenario that could happen. What if we had a car wreck and they got scared and ran from the scene? What if I fall on a walk and twist my ankle and they both get away from me? What if someone steals them from my car? What if aliens come down and abduct them while we are sleeping?! LOL! But seriously!! I worry about these kinds of things constantly.
One Thanksgiving in Houston, Melvin decided to dig a hole under a fence from Lin’s mom’s yard. Thank goodness I was in the guest room and noticed him running around the front yard so he basically escaped! But had 10 more minutes gone by and I would have never even realized it and let me tell you that little chunk can cover a lot of ground in ten minutes. On another trip, he decided to bolt out of Jan’s yard again and made us chase him about 4 blocks until we finally luckily cornered him with two cars. It was the one of the scariest moments of my life.
Henry never runs away from us but can easily be persuaded by Melvin so that is concerning too. So a GPS tracking collar is a huge huge comfort to me.
Yes, they are both microchipped but honestly their uses are very limited. Their information can only be accessed by someone (like your vet or animal control) who has a microchip scanner; the microchip itself doesn’t tell you where your dog is from one moment to the next. Microchip scanner? I know I don't have one…so what's the solution? And what if the person who finds the dog doesn’t take the lost pet to see if they have a chip???
So really for me, a positive helpful solution was a GPS dog tracker, which will allow me to see my dogs location at any given moment (and find him if he wanders) but the tracker can also help my dogs become more active because on a recent vet appointment they both need to lose some pounds!
Here is where we insert Fi who is giving back the freedom to our best friends while keeping them safe and healthy!!
I reached out and they generously gifted Melvin and Henry a GPS collar! And we have been using them since before Christmas so we could make sure it was something we wanted to promote ! And we absolutely love Fi.
HOW IT WORKS
Read about the lost dog mode here. It shows you exactly how that feature works and they just do such a good job in making it very clear! You can read over all the amazing testimonials too!!!!
So cool, right?! My fave things are the UNMATCHED BATTERY LIFE providing you with an average of 3 months between charges*, 20x more battery life than any other GPS tracking device! Love the durable design and 1 year warranty!! They are chew-proof, water-proof (even the ocean), and generally dog-proof. If anything does go wrong, Fi is an email away. And you cannot beat the SERVICE & COVERAGE ! Fi is the only smart dog collar on the new LTE-M Network, which means you’ll always have the best coverage no matter where you are in the US.
I love the colors also! Yellow and Grey are so fun!!!!
If you purchase one please let me know what you think!!! We have loved helping Melvin and Henry hit their 10,000 step goal daily!! I also love how when Lin takes the dogs out I get an alert on my phone telling me when Melvin and Henry have left and when they are safe at home again!! Our neighborhood is getting a little crazy with the homeless so it just gives me piece of mind because you never know what can go wrong. I am not saying all homeless people are dangerous but the encounters we have had lately in the neighborhood with certain homeless individuals have not made me feel very safe at all! I also just love being comfortable to bring them with me to many more places even though they have to be on leash, I just do not have to worry as much should they get lose somehow!!!!!
