If I can’t travel the world, I’ll bring the world right to me — that’s the motto I’ve held onto during this whole pandemic to keep me sane! I have cooked my way around the world in my kitchen perfecting some of my favorite things I love to eat! Italy (homemade pasta of all sorts!) France (crepes!), and Israel (shakshuka!) Mexico (mole enchiladas!) Spain (paella!) I mean -the list goes on and on! This bring-the-world-home motto has of course carried through to my candles too. I mean a beautiful aroma can completely transport you.
And Brooklyn Candle Studio just makes the best candles to transport you to your favorite places while sitting on your sofa relaxing or having a hectic work day.
We are Brooklyn Candle Studio. Our mission is simple: to create candles with captivating scents, beautiful minimalist design, and the best ingredients. Essentially, everything we love about luxury candles, but at accessible prices. Our dreamy scents are inspired by nature and travel, moments and memories.
We use 100% soy wax derived from American-grown soy beans for an eco-friendly, clean burn and lead-free cotton wicks.
Our candles are petroleum-free, cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and 100% vegan.
Each of our candles is wicked, poured, and labeled by hand by our in-house team of artisans.
We like to think of our wares as full sensory experiences—from the artful minimal packaging to the warm candlelight and delicate aromas that fill a room. So, go ahead, light one up.
We produce our candles out of a 2000 square foot workshop in Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, a hub of makers, designers, artists, and small businesses. All of our employees earn fair wages and benefits: paid time off and subsidized healthcare, dental, and vision.
Meet The Founder:
Tamara Mayne is fragrance obsessive and designer who founded Brooklyn Candle Studio in 2013. Tamara hails from Virginia and studied Fine Art and Economics at the University of Virginia before moving to New York. Creatively unfulfilled after subsequent jobs in the finance and technology fields, she enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2009 to study graphic design. Armed with nothing more than a kit from a local craft store, she began making candles as gifts for friends and family in 2012 and soon became deeply immersed in aromatherapy and candle-making. Ever since, her passion has been to create beautifully packaged natural candles at an affordable price point.
Escapist Collection
Their Escapist collection takes you to your favorite places in the world, places you’ve traveled to that have a permanent place in our olfactory memories. Double-wicked and housed in white textured boxes and screen-printed glass tumblers, this collection will tug at the heartstrings of minimalists around the world.
I have the Santa Fe Escapist Candle. Santa Fe is one of my favorite places on earth! And I have been missing it like crazy so this candle is such a dream. It has an earthy, calming scent, whose aromas of orchid cactus, wild sage, juniper, and piñon evoke days exploring the desert landscape and nights warming by the kiva fireplace.
Minimalist Collection
Inspired by the natural aromatic beauty that exists all around us—the crisp, dewy air during a verdant hike amongst walls of ferns and towering trees in California, the delicate floralcy of freshly picked wildflowers.
I also have the Montana Forest Minimalist Candle. It’s inspired by the fresh evergreens that grow in the airy mountains of Montana, this scent is reminiscent of nature in a far-off place. A Brooklyn Candle Studio original blend of blue spruce, pine, and camphor essential oils and fragrance. And it truly takes me back to this magical vacation Lin and I took where Montana captured my heart completely. You can read all about that here. They recently just did an artist collaboration too! This is a collection inspired by the strength and empowerment of women featuring drawings by California-based artist, Allison Kunath. Ten percent of proceeds from every candle sold will be donated to women’s rights charitable organizations.
