Best Publication For French Culture-France-Amérique

For those of you who follow me you know that I am learning French!

And a huge part of mastering the language is really immersing yourself in the language as much as possible. Practice does indeed make perfect! One advantage of this quarantine is I have had lots of free time to dedicate to my language practice.

C'est en forgeant qu'on devient forgeron!

My French tutor introduced me to France-Amérique and I am so in love with this publication. Founded in 1943 by French exiles in New York, France-Amérique is the only bilingual French-English publication in the United States. Every month, the France-Amérique print magazine offers a compilation of portraits, reports, essays, and interviews to inspire thought and debate, combined with an elegant design and high-quality images. The publication analyzes French life and art de vivre, and offers a unique connection to the French cultural scene in the United States. Thanks to its bilingual format, France-Amérique attracts students of French and English who use the magazine to improve their written comprehension in both languages.

How To Get A "French Girl Look" Using Non Toxic Cosmetics

In the U.S., women are looking for quick fixes that leave their skin dry, peeling, or damaged, so they’re buying more makeup, and the difference is that American women find skin care complicated, with many steps, and the French secret is more about simplicity! Would you agree?!

One product you typically won’t find in a French woman’s makeup bag? Foundation.

French women seemingly live by "less is more" in all aspects of their beauty routines. The makeup must not be obvious, but rather enhance rather than cover up

Spring French Playlist/ Françoise Hardy

I am so excited to have found a record shop that actually stocks French albums!!!!! Be sure to check out Tunnel Records + Beach Goods in the Outer Sunset area of San Francisco. This Francoise Hardy album is just too good to not share with you so I threw it up on Spotify.

From the very beginning of her career, Hardy exuded an indefinable otherness, which set her apart from her contemporaries, singers like Johnny Hallyday and France Gall, whose manufactured sound defined the yé-yé style that characterised French pop in the early 1960s. Her songs, however jaunty they sounded, often evinced a kind of dreamy sadness – “I walk down the streets, my soul in sorrow” runs a line in her debut hit single, Tous les garçons et les filles.

France At Your Doorstep--OuiPlease

I can’t always jet off to Paris whenever I would like. Really, such a shame! But now, I, and you other French lovers, can have the next best thing, Oui Please – a carefully curated box full of items from France. I have shared OuiPlease before and will continue sharing them because it’s a brand I love!! Find those past posts here.

Each delivery is a different experience from various regions in France. So you don’t only get the best from Paris but from all over France. The holiday box was one of my very favorites thus far! The boxes just keep getting better and better!! Everything from my Maradji scarf, hand and body wash from Rose et Marius, a toiletry bag from Rive Droite , candies from Maison Boissier , and so, so much more! Each box is valued at over $400 (but you pay far less) – which is much cheaper than that $1500 plane ticket you were just looking at! While there is no replacing the actual experience of visiting France, Oui Please is definitely the next best option! Consider it for yourself or as a gift for that person in your life who can never get enough of travel or France!

Galette des Rois: A Sweet French Tradition

You thought the French food fest was over now that Christmas and New Year’s Eve was behind us? Think again. With the arrival of January comes a national obsession with the galette des rois – the “king cake.”

If you’re in France, you’ve probably noticed this scrumptious-looking cake, usually topped with a golden paper crown, in your local boulangerie (bakery), pâtisserie (pastry shop), or supermarché (supermarket) since mid-December. It’s flaky, sweet and best served when warm, straight out of the oven.

Braum’s An Affair Of The Heart 2019: My Recap-Plus A Giveaway

A few weeks ago I was so happy to kickstart the holidays at Braum’s An Affair Of The Heart in Tulsa. If you haven’t heard of An Affair Of The Heart, it’s a truly unique event that happens several times a year in Oklahoma and a few surrounding areas. And if you have been following me for a while, I featured some amazing gift items in a holiday gift guide for you to discover at the show in this post and also this post. An Affair Of The Heart brings together the creators of the world who have an especially strong sense of community, creativity, and soul, and all of the exhibitors I got to talk to were incredibly friendly and talented. While I was there I spotted some amazing entrepreneurs that I thought I’d share with you today of course with some emphasis on some of the vendors I have already included-but really tried to showcase new ones that I discovered! (thanks for the suggestions on that) I hope you enjoy the pics from the event too as well as pics from the blogger event I co-hosted with Lisa and Kristin! I feel confident your other favorite Tulsa bloggers will be working with An Affair Of The Heart in 2020 too! (Thank you so much to Jenna for helping me with photos this year as I was taking so much video content for Insta Stories which you can find on my hi-lights ! There is quite a bit of my photography included too though…#teamwork)
