Simple Rustic Pear Galette Recipe

This time of year, people tend to be more excited about sweet treats and less strict about their healthy eating habits. Since my new love language is baking, obviously I’ll be baking for the people I love. It is the tastiest time of the year after all! Lin’s sister sent us the incredible Harry + David pears so I made a delish easy rustic pear galette. Weighing in at around a full pound apiece, the Royal Riviera® Cream of the Crop Pears are the king-sized version of our famous pears. Expertly grown and handpicked, these premium pears have a soft, buttery flesh that's so sweet, you might want to save them for dessert which is exactly what I did! These juicy giants are also perfect for entertaining, whether divided up in a pear and blue cheese salad to share or set out as an impressive display in your fruit bowl. I used 4 of the 6 I received in my galette and I am actually using the other 2 in a Christmas sangria!!!

This recipe is so simple!!! I promise. This Rustic Pear Galette recipe is my new fave. The buttery and flaky homemade galette crust is to-die-for. And I am so stoked that I did not have to use gluten free flour. I used Ukrainian flour after seeing a post from @lizzyloveshealth. With a few basic pantry ingredients, you can create an amazing dessert everyone will love. Sweet pears, chopped almonds, and brown sugar top this rustic pastry.  No fussy lattice, no crimped edges…just authentic flavor!!!!

NEW YEAR-NEW SCENTS WITH SKYLAR'S SCENT CLUB

We are all almost to the finish line. We are getting ready to make it through Christmas, and New Year's is on the horizon. However, are you ready for the festivities of New Year's Eve?! New Year’s usually comes with much more champagne in our home and the needed ability to stay up past midnight-which I must admit is very hard for me in my old age! LOL!

With 2019 well underway, the time for change is ever present. Not only is this a new year, but it’s the start of a brand new decade! And I don’t know about you but I am feeling the shift. I am feeling the need to make some changes even with my vanity. My makeup bags are stuffed with six similar red lipsticks and four mascara’s..two of which are most likely about to expire. I am going a little nuts with it all and am just ready to simplify and purge, purge, purge!!!! I even started going through some of my fragrances and then that really made me reflect on my relationship with one of my very favorite brands-Skylar. They are such a special part of my daily life as I wear perfume everyday. And when I wear Skylar fragrances I cannot help nut put a smile on my face, even when the world around me seems to be falling apart. There is something about a good fragrance that makes me feel confident, positive, and beautiful. Yet there is also something about a good fragrance that makes me feel relaxed and/or recharged. A burst of fragrance just refreshes my body and mind.

Classic Staples With Elizabeth Suzann

Happy almost Christmas everyone!! It’s the end of the week and I am winding down so that I can enjoy the holiday with my love and dogs next week. I am very much looking forward to unplugging. But before I do that..I have an amazing “Meet The Maker Feature” to share with you today. Slow fashion is something that I took a break from writing about but as we begin a new year-it’s something that is heavily on my mind. How can we buy less? How can we waste less? It’s a conversation that encompasses a number of concerns, from our planet, to our wallets, to our state of mind when searching through our wardrobe for something to wear each morning.

The best way that I can describe my commitment to slow fashion is that I am trying to make it work. I primarily buy classics and I want to keep my clothes and accessories alive for a long time. It’s something I’m constantly pushing myself to improve upon with every piece that I add into my closet.

I had these sentiments in mind when choosing the brand that I wanted to highlight for this story today. The timeless aesthetic initially drew me to them, a quality that both aligns with my own personal style and makes shopping for classic staples so easy!

Creating Meals With Vermicular Part 2// Perfect Rice

I shared in early November that I had been cooking up a storm with the most beautiful Musui from Vermicular. I am 100 percent in love with this Japanese cookware. And the two recipes I have made so far with their recipe book have been spot on!! They were so easy to create and so so delicious!!! You can find all the details of all three of those posts here.

And I still have been cooking up a storm with my Musui and have just loved it so much that I now have added the Vermicular Kamado into the mix. It has been so fun to cook again and provide delicious nutritional recipes for my sweet Lin. The Kamado delivers three-dimensional heating and precision heat control at the touch of a button. High performance induction coils with a surrounding heater provides even heat distribution, simulating the engulfing flames of traditional Japanese kamado stoves.

Getting SpecTACOlar with CAULIPOWER Cauliflower Tortillas--(Veggie Fajitas Recipe)

I cannot remember a time in my life when I was not extremely big on Mexican food. I could truly eat it every day. I grew up in El Paso Texas in a hispanic family and let’s just say tacos were a weekly staple!!!!

If you have been following me for a while, you will know that Lin has been having lots of complications with his stomach is on a gluten free protocol. He is also trying to cut dairy and animal protein all together because they can be hard on the digestive system. He has been craving fajitas though so I started going down the Pinterest rabbit-hole a few weeks ago searching for cauliflower tortilla recipes. Well all of them called for baking and just looked so time consuming and complicated. I mean…who has time or energy to actually squeeze all of the water out of cauliflower? I just cannot make that kind of time sacrifice.

And then like magic I received an email with the opportunity to partner with CAULIPOWER to experience and share their CAULIPOWER Cauliflower Tortillas! I love their pizzas so this was a no brainer for me!

Make Every Day a Good Hair Day With Christophe Robin

When it comes to hair, it seems that we often want what we don’t have. Straight-haired girls pump up their locks with dry shampoo, while those with natural curls are always looking for ways to fight the frizz. The one constant is that our hair is undoubtedly a reflection of our identity, and a bad hair day can equal an overall bad day. It’s seriously true. Since the foundational step (washing) is actually key to achieving our best hair ever and today I am sharing a shampoo and conditioner that never lets me down. Sharing a few styling products too!!! Christophe Robin might be a hair god!!!! His products even helped me with my never ending dandruff.

Holiday Gifting For HIM Featuring The Tie Bar

I admit it — I love the holidays as an excuse to show the guys in my life how much I appreciate them, but what I really love is the chance to exercise a bit of style guidance in the process. I almost always buy Lin clothes for Christmas, since (like many guys) he rarely actually shops for clothes but still wants to look updated and cool while remaining age appropriate! My strategy for choosing clothes for him is to buy pieces that generally look like his style, but with slightly more fashion-forward details or silhouettes than he’d typically buy for himself. You know, trying to keep him from getting into a rut, and The Tie Bar has tons of options that check all the boxes. Keep reading to see what I’ve settled on, and Rodge: if you’re reading… stop now! Miles too. (Miles is my brother and I cannot wait to see his face when he gets his little surprise in the mail!!

This Jewelry Line Is On All Our Holiday Wishlist's...// MGG Studio

I have become such a minimalist this year when it came to accessorizing. So it was just a perfect day when MGG Studio entered my world. Two simple beautiful rings caught my eye on their Instagram and now they are happily mine! Knowing that each piece is hand crafted from start to finish using all ethically sourced materials, in their small studio in Northern California’s Bay Area, well— my accessorizing philosophy looks a little different now: I’ve gone from being a jewelry minimalist, to a jewelry purist.

Gifts For The Brutalist + Art Deco Architecture Lover

Brutalist buildings tend to create a love or hate reaction. I’m personally love and have been inspired by this modernist style for quite some time. Lin too. Brutalist buildings are no nonsense spaces, fortress like structures that serve a practical post war purpose for social housing, industry, cultural centers and institutions. There is so much beauty in their boldness, the chunky slabs of concrete, the uncompromising and unpretentious raw material and the interesting shapes they take from different view points.

Lin can be tough to shop for so I was so happy to have discovered Blue Crow Media. Founded in 2009 by Derek Lamberton, Blue Crow Media is an independent publisher dedicated to creating thoughtfully designed and carefully curated city maps. Their publications began with a series of food and drink city maps and apps, and since 2015 they have published a series architecture and design guide maps. The New York Times describes the maps as "part design manifesto, part urban architecture guide".

Braum’s An Affair Of The Heart 2019: My Recap-Plus A Giveaway

A few weeks ago I was so happy to kickstart the holidays at Braum’s An Affair Of The Heart in Tulsa. If you haven’t heard of An Affair Of The Heart, it’s a truly unique event that happens several times a year in Oklahoma and a few surrounding areas. And if you have been following me for a while, I featured some amazing gift items in a holiday gift guide for you to discover at the show in this post and also this post. An Affair Of The Heart brings together the creators of the world who have an especially strong sense of community, creativity, and soul, and all of the exhibitors I got to talk to were incredibly friendly and talented. While I was there I spotted some amazing entrepreneurs that I thought I’d share with you today of course with some emphasis on some of the vendors I have already included-but really tried to showcase new ones that I discovered! (thanks for the suggestions on that) I hope you enjoy the pics from the event too as well as pics from the blogger event I co-hosted with Lisa and Kristin! I feel confident your other favorite Tulsa bloggers will be working with An Affair Of The Heart in 2020 too! (Thank you so much to Jenna for helping me with photos this year as I was taking so much video content for Insta Stories which you can find on my hi-lights ! There is quite a bit of my photography included too though…#teamwork)

Fall Couple's Retreat In Carlton Landing At The Verana Home

Every time I visit Carlton Landing, I enjoy it more and more. As a creature of habit, I do tend to visit a lot of the same places because I love them, but always add something new to my trip each time.

At the beginning of November (where did the month go?), I whisked my friends away to Carlton Landing for a fun couple’s weekend. I had never experienced fall in Carlton Landing and I kept hearing that it was actually the favorite season of many locals who live in CL full time! It was also Brooke and Eric’s 6 year anniversary so the weekend away was perfect timing for this fall couple’s retreat.

First things first..stop at the local liquor store to grab some wine and beer!! The other couple’s were in charge of food.
